Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema are two “democratic senators” that have shown they could care less about saving democracy and care more about continuing to further their own personal agenda and pad their pockets. By them refusing to get rid of the filibuster to pass meaningful legislation, such as voting rights leaves us with a tyrannical government.
All over the country, GOP legislators have been passing restrictive voting rights bills based on the “big lie” which led to the insurrection on January 6, 2021. The only way to stop these laws would be for congress to pass the For the People Act, but republicans in the senate refuse to get behind it because they enjoy minority rule and want to hold on to power. They only way for democrats to pass it on their own would be to either get rid of the filibuster or make a carve out for civil rights and pass it on their own.
This cannot happen without all 50 democratic senators and two of them refuse to get behind the ideal of this, the question is why? They say it’s because if you get rid of the filibuster now what’s going to stop the GOP from running ram shack their agenda, but we’ve seen the last four years that nothing will stop them from doing what they want. The GOP has been cohesive with denying what they call a win for Joe Biden agenda, but what they are truly doing is hurting America to retain power.
It’s nice to be able to have privilege and not be worried but for some of us we don’t have that, and our livelihood is on the line, what will become of us once the theocracy is complete? Minority rule just brings us to what we deemed was inhumane in South Africa, Apartheid or taking us back to pre-1865. It’s truly bizarre that the reward for voting would be to lose your voting rights because of the way you voted and not because you stormed the capitol in an attempt to overthrow the government, but I guess that is what white privilege is, the ability to do what you want when you want consequences be damned and then to have congress and laws codify and protect you.
We are at a crossroad, democracy is now on its last leg, resting on a ventilator barely holding on and we have to ask ourselves and two “democratic senators” will you pull the plug and allow her to die or will you find your integrity, stand up for the constitution and give her the medicine she needs to fully recover?
